The Heritage Trail Pedestrian Bridge crossing state road IA 3 in Dubuque County was experiencing subgrade failure problems and resulting settlement of the paved trail surface.  The primary issue was infiltration of stormwater underneath the existing asphalt trail along the MSE retaining wall.  Endeavor Civil Engineering was hired by Dubuque County Conservation to analyze the problem and produce a solution.  The chosen remedy was a complete removal of the asphalt trail and replacement with a 6" concrete trail surface with an abbreviated curb detail funneling the stormwater away from the paved surface/MSE wall joint and towards existing drains.  Also included in the design was a perforated tile installed under the center of the concrete trail which would wick away any excess water infiltration.  Endeavor Civil Engineering is proud to have helped the County extend the life of a valuable trail asset
